Sahel: Roadside bomb kills soldiers in south Niger

On Sunday January 17, 2021 at around 2000hrs. following the terrorist attack on the military position of Chétima Wangou in the Diffa region vigorously repulsed by the Niger Armed Forces (FAN), a pursuit was initiated.

On Monday January 18, 2021 at around 1500hrs, forces came across an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).  Unfortunately, four (04) dead and eight (08) seriously injured.  Mop-up operations and offensive reconnaissance are continuing.

In this painful circumstance, the Minister of National Defense, addresses on behalf of the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armies and on behalf of the Government, his saddened condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured. He encourages the Defense and Security Forces in their mission of defending the integrity of the national territory.
